The Untold Story of Islam BBC Documentary by Tom Holland

Tom Holland presents a BBC Television documentary in which he highlights the difficulty in finding any 7th Century extant evidence at all about the historicity of this religion.

Tom Holland asks Muslim scholar, Professor Seyeed Hossain Nasr a simple question…

“Can someone like myself, who is not a Muslim and does not believe that God spoke to Muhammad, ever hope to fathom the truth about the origins of Islam”?

Answer: “No

The fact remains, that the claims of Islam are that when Muhammad existed, there is no evidence from that period about Islam at all. All of the evidence is circumstantial at best and likely made up at worst.

Perhaps Mohamed, like Paul, was not looking to start a new religion. The way was rejected by Judaism and basically expelled. From what I understand Islam is as much a cultural, even racial faith and as such excludes itself from others rather than the other way around. There is tolerance built in for other faith outside Arabians but that is conveniently ignored by fanatics. However the rejection of the divinity of Christ automatically alienates it from Christianity.
