I can’t take full credit for this one, because it was set up so perfectly for me:

My wife and I were at a church choir cookout early in the fall. A philosophy professor, my wife, myself and one other were chatting, and the topic of car accidents came up. My wife was describing how she had had a collision when she was leaving a university parking lot on a bright midmorning.

She was facing south but turning to the east across two westbound lanes of a busy four lane street with the sun in her face. A westbound vehicle struck her, or she it – I don’t remember, but our car was totaled. There was no serious injury, thankfully.

“It sprang into existence right out of the morning sun,” she said. David, the philosophy professor, exclaimed, “Ex nihilo!” I replied, “Yeah, it was a Fiat.”
