I find much to admire in what some atheists have written; e.g. Carl Sagan and Richard Dawkins. In many ways, my train of thought during my formative years, followed theirs. I try to figure out why I was led to a different world view. I believe (or at least hope) that God will be pleased with their efforts to discover His Truth, even though they ended up deceiving themselves.
