Green hydrogen Electrolyser...this doesnt add up

Hi guys, not directly about Christianity. However given we do have a responsibility to protect the environment, i feel it is appropriate for climate science knowledge to be shared and discussed here…

Can someone check my understanding of the image below

The “green hydrogen” project below apparently is being abandonned due to high cost. However, in looking closely at its specifications plaque, it appears to me there may be a far more significant reason…does it use more energy than it produces?

I note that according to the plaque:

max input power is 1100KW

Max output of green hydrogen is 21kg/hr

When i google how much power a 21kg supply of hydrogen can produce, i am told its 33KWh.

My understanding from my high school days was that the process of separating hydrogen from oxygen in water using any kind of electrical input uses more energy than it produces…seems to me that same problem exists in this device.

Can someone check this. If the above is true, then its no wonder the project is being scaled back/or even abandonned by Fortescue (after the QLD government withdrew its funding support earlier this year) the project appears to require 33 times more energy input than it actually produces.

Whats worse, the explaination about the known efficiency of electrolysis below states its normally about 70%. This machine is not even half of that.

Now i recognise that the supply energy is coming from renewable power, but this is circular reasoning…if another renewable energy source is already providing 33 times more energy to run this project, then this would seem to me to be a pointless venture!

funny that no one has any input into this…clearly not too many minds here have ever thought about how much energy is required to separate hydrogen from oxygen in water and that using the electrolytic method to achieve the goals of this nature, venture down a rabbit warren into utter stupidity.

Thank goodness the QLD government realized that and withdrew its funding.

For me however, its deeply worrying to note that these scientists, who designed and built this idiotic machine, did so with the fantastic notion “its using green energy for powering the electrolytic reaction, it must be a step forward!”

This is an example of why it is that i am so controversial against scientists on these forums…a degree in science does not mean logical thinking or even the ability to actually avoid coming up with nonsense.

For me, its the same kind of thinking we see in this example above that i see in individuals who attempt to pervert intrinsic biblical theology to make it fit their pre-determined world view.

Those scientists forgot rule number one…using electricity to separate hydrogen from oxygen in water uses more energy than is available to do work via the products of the reaction. It is not capable of powering the process and then doing any work with what’s left over.

when Christians ignore the foundational rules/themes of the Bible :
Creation,
Fall/ Corruption/Sin/Suffering/Death,
Salvation through Christ,
Redemption at the Second Coming/
New Creation of heavens and the earth

we end up in a similar pickle to those scientists at Fortescue. Individuals who, due to their stupidity in ignoring foundational rules/themes, then cost 90 staff members attached to the project their livelihoods. These staff were led up the garden path into error.
