Wow. A dead thread resurrected. Anyway, here ya go. AiG and Flat Earthers refuted in one also long-dead thread.
As Laura and others have noted, the AiG piece by astronomer Dr. Danny Faulkner does a good job describing the problems with believing in a flat Earth, but all of his arguments apply equally well to a young Earth. Thus, I determined to try an experiment. I copied and pasted Dr. Faulkner’s article into a Word doc and used “find/replace” with these terms: flat/young, shape/age, "a sphere”/old, “a globe”/old, and astronomy/geology. Before anyone starts worrying about copyright issues, satire is 100% protected by Fair Use. I offer this satire not for the purpose of making a joke, but in the hope that some among the Young-Earth Movement will recognize themselves in this mirror.

There are SO MANY discrepancies with FE that I’m weary of thinking about it
WHY couldn’t they just stop at “NASA faked the '69 moon landing”?
I can live with that. There are LOGICAL reasons for why they probably did
But.. do we have to change the entire galaxy over it?! ..

I’ve unfortunately just come across a social media post that says that NASA was purpose built to cover up God, because “Nasha” the Hebrew word means to deceive (despite the fact that the Hebrew word “Nasa” actually means to lift up).
You can actually see many actual pieces of information taken to try and prove this Flat Earth model. Yes, Earth is an oblate spheroid. No, that does not mean that scientists claim Earth is a flat disk like the orange disk was supposed to show, and no the oblate-ness isn’t large enough to show from space. It’s small fact twisting like this that seems to be common online.
I was unfortunate enough to see some of the comments and, unlike many conspiracy theories on Twitter, this post also draw some scientific folk as well. Unfortunately, some of these people lashed out at Christians in general, which to me just goes to show how a lot of this heavy rhetoric just seems self-sustaining.

Stupidity never “just stops”. Conspiracy theorists always jump to yet wilder, and even more absurd things. Stepping stones. They can be taken in either direction.
The thing that gets me is that, like most things involving maps, the northern hemisphere (and the North Pole) is assumed to be normal whereas the south is the problem child (likely because many of these people have flown flights in the northern hemisphere and haven’t seen anything fishy).
I wonder if there are any flat earthers in South America that believe that the Southern pole is normal but the normal pole is all extended out?
Either way, a normal airline flight anywhere south of the Equator proves flat Earth wrong, as in the flat Earth model the Southern Hemisphere is absurdly extended.

Behind the Curve illustrated how flat Earth believers rely on poorly-verified claims. Mark Sargent claimed to have watched flightaware.com for a very long time to check if any flights travelled between continents in the southern hemisphere, which in his disc model would be much further apart than they are on the globe. He stated that he saw no such flights, and took this as evidence for the disc model. Caltech astrophysicist Hannalore Gerling-Dunsmore went to the site and immediately found flights that contradicted Sargent’s claims.[103][104]

I wonder if it was just a slow day of flying (unlikely), somehow missed those flights (maybe Flightaware just doesn’t get data from Southern countries), or he just blatantly left out that data (which I hope isn’t true).
I don’t want to come off too hostile, but one thing I have noticed with a great many number of conspiracy theories of that they tend to try and “poke holes” in existing scientific theories, but then don’t provide the necessary explanation as to how such a system works.
With Flat Earth, we are just told to assume that the Sun and Moon hover above our flat disk and occasionally move north or south to account for seasons. Yet, how exactly this is supposed to work isn’t specified, except that for the Christians that push it, it seems that an unstated assumption of “oh God handles that” is the explanation given.
Another one that always gets me is the “petroleum is actually renewable” argument that I guess is used to excuse our current energy usage. They say that oil is so abundant that “it sprays out of the ground in some places” and the fossil fuel label was coined by Rockefeller to make it seem limited and thus expensive (and since he’s obviously lying then oil must be super abundant!). Yet, they don’t give any explanation as to how so much oil could come into existence.
I’ve flown to Southeast Asia (Philippines & Cambodia) a number of times…never a direct flight. First time, stopover in Anchorage, then Hong Kong. Second time, Vancouver, Taipei, then Bangkok. Done the trip probably 5-6 times, always a stopover.
This past summer, my brother went to southeast Asia (including Bangkok). His stopover was Helsinki.
