Why is the firmament not a problem anymore?

As an atheist, I am amazed how inconsistent Christians can be when interpreting the Bible.

For instance, literal days must be literal, as the OP indicated. But what about the firmament, with water above and below it, and where (i.e IN the firmament) the sun, the moon and the star are afixed. Why is the firmament not a problem anymore?

Not all Christians think days mentioned in Genesis must be literal. We don’t take the firmament literally because we know it’s not there. Especially since our spacecraft haven’t crashed into it.
