The thing is, the Old Testament Sanctuary Service was an intimate part of Jewish life for 1400 years before the time of Christ.
We know that ancient Jewish children were taught to recite the Torah and even the entire Hebrew Bible…so they would have been very familiar with the writings of Moses
Today Jews still observe those services so it should come as no suprise that John the Baptist would have known exactly what the purpose of the Day of Atonement Service was all about…despite you obviously not having a clue ( i really wish you wouldnt time waste, you are making outrageously unintelligent inferences and claims for what purpose only you know)
We know God gave him the plan directly because Moses told us. If Moses got it from Egyptians, he would have told us that instead, but he did not. So either you are claiming Moses is a liar, or you are talking out of your ass! (again for what purpose only you would know)
This statement could only come from someone whodoes not believe the story of Christianity. Are you mormon of a former mormon or something…you have some really unconventional ideas there that are not remotely biblical (dont reference, dont follow scripture, change meanings whilst claiming that known meanings from ancient times are modern spins inflluenced by science methods that did not even exist when those ancient intepretations were derived…i mean honestly, that last one is totally bonkers)
In any case, Mervin will either rebutt my response, or accept the evidence and know his criticism was appropriately addressed and answered factually
i think he is smart enough to accept the evidence is not a personal attack on anyone…its simply what the evidence tells us. Given his criticism was an attempt to attack Old Testament Mosaic law (if you like), he deserved an honest answer consistent with the Bibles claims there.. I did not attempt to explain away or change the MO…i still believe that we largely do the same today as what Israelites did 3400 years ago when women are menstruating.
Is everything a modern culture does identical to the last biblical “jot or tittle”…obviously not…we play “Christian” rock music in churches for a start! Some may be agahst at such things but look at what King David did…he ate Shewbread once, and another time, danced like a madman offering sacrifices every few metres in front of the Ark of the Covenant…by contrast, many Christians today see that kind of dancing as heathen (so there’s that)
But you are – you say there were visions when that’s convenient for you, and don’t invoke visions when it isn’t convenient. Your approach to the text is inconsistent.
And we know that the Tabernacle was basically a copy of the Pharaoh’s command tent.
Just as we know that Genesis 1 is patterned after the generic Egyptian creation story.
Rather than kick against the truth, you should be asking, “Fine, why did God do it that way?”
I didn’t even talk about Moses.
You’re either lying or just never pay attention. YEC is the system that brings science into things – I work from the text.
Often I deliberately avoid citing scripture because you treat it like a magical source you can invoke to shut other people down, as though it has the answers to everything even when it doesn’t address them.
This is my point, all the flavors and or varieties, causing many Un-Believers. I went on Christian Mingle and there was a draw down selection for what kind of Christianity do you belong to. Israel is a Jewish Country and they have many different parties in the Knesset. Identifying a Judeao-Christian Culture is all over the Place.
Heinz has 57 Varieties, Baskin and Robbins has 31 Flavors. I want to be United with Christ Teachings not some Variation on a Theme.
I hear some Guys say “Variety is the Spice of Life” referring to Women, Why get Married? Same thing with Your Choice of too many Car Brands. It’s “Divided We Stand- United We fall” under “Our Fathers’ Judgement.
Yes there are a variety of women, but only one real soul mate. That connection is unique. I am sure no one else would feel about my wife the way i do.
The same goes for cars or vehicles. My van is convenience. Several types would have worked, I chose the one that fitted my budget. I would like a Triumph Spitfire. Go figure that one.
The point is that the variables with God are very different. There are some no nos, but not everything is a must. I cannot argue with
There is no God but God. (even if they call Him Allah)
We do more harm than good trying to deliniate or even judge what is right to beleive. As @Mervin_Bitikofer pointed out Romans 14 is very apt here.
How far we tale it is anther matter. Inter-faith is not the same as ecumenicalism.
Otherwise we are left with the Pope’s view that the only Christian is a Catholic one. Or which ever brand you wish to cite)
Late entry – When I see the term, “Judeo-Christian” used, I mostly see it in the context of Christian discussions. In a way, it’s an oxymoron. Judeo-Christian = Christian. It’s not Jewish at all and Judaism certainly maintains that it is very distinct from Christianity.
