The term “Judaeo-Christian” tends to be used academically to refer to the commonalities of Judaism and Christianity as an adjective; use as a noun is not common in my experience. E.g., thinking that the ten commandments are a good basic outline of moral standards would be a Judaeo-Christian viewpoint.
The New Testament makes it clear that we do not have to follow the Old Testament ceremonies, but it doesn’t say that we must not do them if we recognize that they are not earning us salvation. Thus, it is possible for a Christian to follow various Jewish (or Christian) traditions that are not essential.
Thank You for Your explanation. The Statement “We The People” gives me conflict for The Old Testament Deuteronomy has a lot of Punishment. The New Testament from Jesus, who indicates We should Forgive basically always. So “We the People” always want to Punish like A Posse in the old West. To me this is conflicting. The Charlie Kirk’s Wife just indicated She Forgives, but Yet the people want the Death Penalty.
Bill, take note that Richard provided a well resourced reference for his claim there and given you completely ignored that reference, your retort “were you around in 1821?” above is rather naked and a bit silly.
whilst i differ from Mervin in that I do not agree that eating “unclean” meats is allowed (the vision the apostle recieved that is used to apparently defend the eating of Pork is not even about eating meat…its about taking the gospel to the gentiles…it has nothing to do with food),
I do agree that if what we do is offensive, then we arent supposed to do it. However, having said this, that is not a defense against keeping the commandments or following sound biblical theology and doctrines.
King Saul is a classic example of what happens when one attempts to use ones own morality to decide what God wishes us to do! The prophet Samuel was damning in the statement to “to obey is better than to sacrifice”!
the rule of thumb in society (strangely enough), is that if in doubt, seek to align with the higher, and usually safer, standard!
So I gather that your wife, or any young women in your household were required to leave and stay outside the community then during certain times of the month? And have you been keeping up with all the prescribed animal sacrifices?
Peter’s vision may not be the best go-to for showing that gentiles can be excused from observing Jewish law, but nearly all the rest of the new testament is. Paul was willing to throw a fit when he heard Jewish Christians lean towards trying to impose Jewish law on gentiles. I’ll be nice to you here, but I’m afraid Paul wouldn’t be so nice about it. Read his letter to the Galatians some time!
You are right that it would be a bit superfluous… I don’t think I have ever heard anyone identify as a Judeo-Christian, but just a Christian. This is because Christian is a noun and Judeo-Christian is an adjective as David explains well:
Don’t worry Adam, he has no idea tha he said anything wrong, or took it wrong.

I’ve always viewed Judeo-Christian as a descriptor of how Christian theology depends as much on the Tanakh as it does on the New Testament where one emerges from the other. This is in contrast to Islam where the Koran is more or less a standalone scriptural text. In other words, it attempts to illuminate differences between the 3 major Abrahamic religions.
The two Testaments have differences, you I’m sure you know. My observation is that it’s ok to act by the old and not the new changes as a Christian. This causes two types of remedies to conditions, and a Split-Personality. The conflicts also causes people to doubt and not Believe.
The New makes it clear that everyone failed to act by the Old. This is why we need Jesus. He is the one who saves us and makes us clean/pure regardless if we eat pork or not.
Titus 1:15 To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled.
Rom 3:9b-10 for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Correct. It is not the sin that is the problem, but all the shame, guilt, feelings of unworth, that God wont speak to us, wants nothing to do with us… all these are lies of Satan. He wants to separate us from God, and in our shame make us hide from His presence. So we sit and do nothing, don’t answer His call, become intoxicated, drowned in our sin and spiritually die because we have no purpose.
Jesus lifts us up out of that, no matter where we are at. Its a spiritual warfare against the flesh/sin, not a physical one! We are resurrected to new life and have a new identity in Him. We are clean and pure despite what Satan accuses us of in our flesh, even what we did just a moment ago. Its the condition of our heart that matters. Jesus redeemed us and we can do all things in Him… we have a purpose and of our own free will become compelled to do good, to do the work of building the Kingdom. He lives in us, speaks to us and has a relationship with us!
2 Cor 5:14-15 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.
Our perpetual question is are We doing good or are We doing for Man and His No-Good? To me much of the Stock Market is Gambling, Man likes to call it Investing. It’s not making anything once the Shares are IPO. It’s just like buying Lottery Tickets and Making the Pre-IPO OWNERS Rich like Musk. I know this is Capitalism, but it does have Illusions and Deception.
As for advancing His Kingdom, Jesus said “My Kingdom is not of this Would” and never will be. All We can do is try to behave like We belong there, by doing unto Others as We would have Others do unto Us. There are many other behaviors that will be in Heaven, no Thieves or Locks, no Wars or Weapons and Love and Trust for Each Other, etc.
When one studies the Old Testament sanctuary service, the model predicts that a saviour would come who would take away the sins of. the world and make the sacrifice of sheep and goats unnecessary.
It is summed up in the “Agnus dei” statement by John the Baptist
…and given the New Testament Gospel had not yet been spoken or written at that point, how do you think John the Baptist knew about this? Well, John the Baptist was Jewish and knew the Old Testament prophecies and certainly was familiar with all of the Sanctuary Service customs and theology!
Now back to your first criticism..
In your younger days, did you have sex with your wife during her menstrual cycle? Probably the odd time, but generally no right?
You have to remember that prior to the Exodus, the Israelites had lived under the Egyptian way of life for a long, long time (about 400 years). Many of the pagan ways had become the norm in Israelite culture…especially given that when Jacob first went into Egypt, it was a large family, not a nation…Israel didn’t have its own national culture so to speak…so they assimilated into the Egyptian way of life.
There were many lessons in Sinai that don’t make sense to us today; however, that is because you forget, they did not have the luxury of sitting in front of a computer doing Google searches on the notion of God’s expectations in created human morality!
To clarify one important disctinction here, i am not changing any biblical narrative in the above, im explaining why women were sent out of the camp and separated during their menstrual period…not claiming it wasnt taken literally or that said separation from sexual temptation and activity should not be the norm during the monthly menstrual cycle…because the fact is, largely even society today doesnt really tend to be comfortable with the notion of “lets have sex during a womens menstrual cycle” right?
Have we actually changed anything there? Not really…i have 4 teenage daughters and honestly, they all regularly take days off school during their menstrual cycle…what is the difference exactly?
For one thing, I do know that all the women in my own family often suffer quite a lot of pain up to and during this part of the cycle…is that something that makes for a normal day? No, does it make for good sex for the female? N,o not really. Does it tend to aid in the transmission of STIs that are rife throughout society today? Even though generally considered a small increase in risk, the overwhelming consensus is yes on that point.
We do good and expect nothing in return. We don’t concern ourselves with what man does with our goodwill.
Luke 6:35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
People have gambling problems just as they have drinking problems, but it is not the gambling or the drinking itself that is the problem. The problem with gambling is expecting something in return.
Its a spiritual Kingdom, not a worldly kingdom. It is not of the world but He is sending it into the world. He had to go away so He could send His Spirit to indwell us, and we rule and reign with Him.
John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
It’s only gambling if you try to make money by doing buying and selling. It’s investing if you buy and sit on it.
Insurance, OTOH, is gambling pure and simple.
I’ll give your usual answer: God told him.
Why do you sometimes insist there were visions when the text doesn’t say so, but other times set that aside?
!!! Yet you reject that very point repeatedly when it suits your argument!
Make that “Egyptian ways” and you’re spot-on: they had soaked up the ancient near eastern, specifically the Egyptian, culture. Why can you see that here but not other times?
It explains why Moses took the generic Egyptian creation story and edited it to write the opening Creation story: a scientific account as YEC demands would have been meaningless, but taking a story they knew well and ‘correcting’ it would have gotten their attention starkly!
