Jer 2:3 israel was holiness unto Yehovah and the firstfruits of his increase all that devour him shall offend evil shall come upon them saith Yehovah
perhaps try thinking outside your box?
i am rejecting the traditional translation of b’reshiyth
i am saying that reshiyth is not chronology but relationship
Gen 1:1 in the beginning elohim created the heaven and the earth
Gen 2:4 these are the generations of the heaven and the earth when they were created in the day that Yehovah elohim made the earth and the heavens
here “heaven and earth” is referring to the creation of Adam and his relationship to Yehovah - just as in Genesis 1:1
or are there 2 different creations?
is this an original thought of yours or are you simply quoting Walton?
is it possible to put Walton aside and investigate an alternate point of view??
i am trying to say that reshiyth, in scripture, is firstfruits - indicating a realtionship, a covenant
in the beginning is the secondary meaning!
from the very first word of scripture, Yehovah is offering Himself to man!
i interpreted it
- How could you possible know what I know and believe now?
- How could you possible know what I knew and believed in the past?
- Haven’t you been warned about ascribing belief to someone else?
I never said it was so what is your point?
Hint: In a response to a person make clear any reference that you intend to apply to everyone besides yourself. Which is generally a bad practice in the first place.
Edit to add: I may be mistaken in point 3 above.
Walton didn’t even enter my mind. I guess he’s championed the temple inauguration view, but he’s hardly alone. And the royal chronicle part comes from my studies in grad school.
So long as you’re doing actual scholarship, sure. But when you say things like:
then it becomes important to ask what Hebrew studies you’ve completed.
There are plainly two different stories, one later than the other.
And what scholarly effort do you base that on?
I think he was being generic, a sort of oratorical bit.
But I will add a fourth item: does this “alternative point of view” have any actual basis other than, “Ooh-- new and shiny!”?
This forum is not a good fit for everyone. Thanks for your graciousness about it, you are welcome back if you ever change your mind. Peace.
