What about a self-caused universe?

It would be something that is not yet aware of its action. As some have said, the goal of history (or this life) is for reason to become conscious of itself.

You gotta serve somebody, and ultimately it’s a question of whether it’s gonna be you or God.

It seems like there are many other options. At a secular level, you can serve your community, your family, or your friends. At a theological level you could serve Thor, Odin, Vishnu, and a long list of other deities that humans have served over the millennia.

It depends on whether the cause of the universe is aware of its action or not.

And there you have it:

  • Either the universe itself is aware, or it isn’t.
  • If it isn’t, somebody’s gotta be aware; must be the cause of the universe.

Not as many options as people have been lead to believe. It’s rare, but some eventually see these are the only possible explanations for the universe:

From nothing, an infinite regress, or an uncaused cause (which is either aware, unaware, or not yet aware of its action)
