Violence Stoning And Morality In The Old Testament

Mmm yeah kinda in the same position. I mean sure if as you say they were given chances it makes it easier to comprehend but still not comfortable. As someone said above the animals were sacrificed for small sins but im doubtfull about that

Nick, Sin is cosmic treason . Sin is treason against a perfectly pure Sovereign. It is an act of supreme ingratitude toward the One to whom we owe everything, to the One who has given us life itself.

The Old Testament records severe warnings against violating God’s holiness. With these warnings come a threat of punishment to any who would violate the admonitions. As people, we understand the concept of crime and punishment, but as sinners, we often fail to recognize the reason for the severity of God’s justice. Shouldn’t God reserve capital punishment for sins like murder, or other acts of violence? Yet all of us have committed capital crimes. All sin is a capital offense against God. Even in the slightest sin we defy the authority of God, insult his majesty, and challenge his justice.

The OT actually represents a radical diminishing of God’s wrath. The problem is that many Christians expect God’s grace - we take mercy for granted, then assume it, and finally we demand it. Mercy by definition, is free and given voluntarily. A holy God is both just and merciful but never unjust. If God were to deal with us according to justice, we would perish instantly. Today we live by His mercy
