Seven anti-vax doctors attend an anti-vax conference and…

Are you sure that they are disseminating misinformation? I have read some articles by Dr. Peter McCullough and they appear to be well researched and cross referenced . He deals in facts and not opinion, facts that can be checked. There is mounting criticism of government policy in the fight against Covid, Evidence has been gathered and presented by Doctors and other medical professionals who up until now were held in high esteem but it is now seen as proper to label them as false without any attempt to converse with them and to answer their concerns.I myself have had two vaccinations and a booster shot but I would like there to be much more public discussion before I might agree to have my grand children vaccinated.
Let them speak and if they are wrong point out their errors.

Yeah, man. He was interviewed by Lifesite news, that most prestigious medical journal.

Some of the points he made include:

#4: COVID-19, no matter what variant, is easily treatable at home

#5: Current COVID-19 vaccines are obsolete and should be considered unfit for human use

Don’t know why BioLogos puts up with this.

Greetings. I’m a family doc, and I welcome the children’s vaccine! My 8 and 11-year olds received their vaccines yesterday, and are doing well.

Regarding the urgency, more than 700,000 Americans have died with Covid. That is nearly twice the number that died in World War II in 4 years.

West Michigan, where I work, is awash with Covid. I have patients in the double digits who have died as recently as last week, and our ICUs are full to overflowing. Patients are boarding in the ER because they don’t have room to be admitted.

Regarding reliable information, to start, a family doc, and all doctors, should go to the source of those who really know infectious disease. Dr McCullough, unfortunately, is a cardiologist. He has less training in viruses and immunizations than the average family physician… We always refer to someone who has training in his or her field.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) employs world class infectious disease physicians and PhDs, epidemiologists, and immunologists, who agonize over these issues, and make stellar decisions based on the best science.

Here are valuable resources for good questions: CDC has population level information, and links to high level research throughout this page, at MMWR:
COVID-19 Vaccines for Children and Teens | CDC

My organization (Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids and West Michigan), with its pediatric infectious disease specialists, strongly recommend the vaccination as safe and effective. Here is their handout from a few days ago.

COVID-19 Vaccine and Children

What is your reaction to the emergency use authorization of the Pfizer vaccine for 5 to 11-year-old children?

This authorization couldn’t come at a better time. We are seeing COVID-19 cases on the rise in West Michigan, especially among children. COVID-19 continues to be a big health issue for school-aged children and vaccination is the safest way to protect children.

Many say COVID-19 has had minimal impact on children so far – why would you say it is important for children to be vaccinated? Children have not made up the majority of those coming into the hospital with severe COVID-19, but it’s not benign for all children either. We have seen a 1-to-5% hospitalization rate in children, but this has increased substantially in the fall of 2021, as well as critically ill patients with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) and Long COVID-19 cases that have resulted in death and disability in affected children. Other indirect effects of missing school and being disconnected from friends and loved ones. Children make up 25% of our population in the U.S., and vaccinating our children is incredibly important for our communities moving past this pandemic.

What is difference in the dose for children?

The vaccine authorized for emergency use authorization is the Pfizer vaccine. This is the same vaccine that is available for 12 to 16-year-old children. The dose authorized is different from older teens and adults, as 5 to 11-year-olds will receive one third of the dose given to a teenager.

Any concerns about the safety of this vaccine for children?

Pfizer submitted comprehensive safety and efficacy data on this vaccine, and we have no concerns after reviewing this data at length. The data from Pfizer show no serious adverse effects other than occasional high fever. The overall side effect profile is very reassuring for this vaccine in children. We will scrupulously monitor for safety signals as the vaccine is provided to more and more children.

Will kids need two doses as well?

Children 5-11 years of age will require two doses of the Pfizer vaccine to complete their initial series. It is possible that children with immune compromise will require further doses to achieve adequate immunity. We will learn more on this as further studies of vaccine response in children are reported.

Do you see any side effects in children who receive the vaccine?

The study investigators did not report adverse side effects other than pain at the site of the injection, fatigue, sore muscles and occasional mild fever. These side effects are expected with ANY vaccine.

If my child has had COVID-19, do they still need the vaccine? Children who have already had COVID-19 will have some immunity for a period of time, but we are not sure for how long. Even if your child has had COVID-19, especially if it’s been several months since their infection, we strongly recommend the COVID-19 vaccine to provide them with optimal immunity.

Can children get the flu shot and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time? The annual flu shot is currently recommended for everyone – children and adults. It is important to get both your COVID-19 vaccine and flu vaccine this year. We know it is safe and effective for adults to get both at the same time and I do not anticipate any difference for children.

How does Flu and COVID-19 appear similarly or differently? It is very difficult to differentiate between cold, flu or COVID-19. All can have mild symptoms or present like cold or flu. If you have any concerns about a respiratory illness in your child, we strongly recommending having your child tested for COVID-19.

Thank you! Blessings.

Hi Pat. I’m an infectious disease researcher who studies viral outbreaks, including the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m not familiar with Dr. McCullough, but he does appear to be making claims that are refuted by an abundance of evidence. For example, that COVID-19 is not spread by those with asymptomatic infections and that those who have been infected cannot be re-infected – these claims are utterly wrong and have been known to be wrong for a long time.

Steve Schaffner is one of those I would defer to (though he’s beyond reach of my direct referrals).

It is amazing how many of us who are not trained in an area, offer advice. It is a temptation to everyone, including me. However, my son just reminded me of the Aesop’s fable of “The Cobbler Turned Doctor,” “Beware of those not trained in their craft”! The error has been around for millennia. It feeds false reassurance into insecurity and suffering.

Just because we’re doctors doesn’t mean we know high level virology in this very difficult, emerging area of a terribly aggressive virus. Consult the CDC and immunologists and infectious disease specialists of repute. Avoid listening to surgeons, cardiologists, and primary care docs if they ignore the policies of the CDC, WHO, and those who trained for decades in that area. Thanks.

I shouldn’t talk to my shrink about it?!

I know you’re being humorous, but that is a great illustration. As Covid affects us in many different ways, it would be totally appropriate to ask him/her how it affects the brain. However, it wouldn’t be appropriate for him/her to comment on how to treat or prevent Covid.

I participated on a discussion about Covid with some healthcare workers, encouraging them to get a vaccine. One of them touted the cardiologist who is anti-vaccine. When we discussed how he wasn’t qualified to talk about vaccination or treatment of Covid, they protested that since the heart can be affected, perhaps he also studied about treatment and prevention. It doesn’t work that way. He could discuss how myocarditis might occur from Covid, and how to treat the heart’s function if you have a heart attack from Covid (beta blockers, vascular intervention, etc) but not how to treat or prevent Covid itself. He should still defer on those to infectious disease and immunology specialists, and in a hospital or clinical setting, that is the only way the health system should tolerate care. It can be confusing.

Meanwhile, an influential, anti-vax televangelist has died of covid:

Christian TV Network CEO Marcus Lamb Dies Of Covid (video is about 4 minutes long)

And his widow is sticking to his anti-vax message! Do these people know or care about the harm they are doing?

But Ezekiel condemns false shepherds. And James says, “Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.”

Thanks Randy for your reply to my post. It will take me some time to check it all out but on first reading it seems solid . Thanks also to Beaglelady and Glipsnort. A problem for me is that a post I made to this board was taken down and labeled “misinformation”. That will mean that any reply I make that does not follow the establishment line will also be canceled. While I can to some extent appreciate the boards concerns It does handicap open frank discussion.

Can you blame BioLogos for not allowing misinformation? This virus has killed so many people. They are simply being responsible.

Greetings! I understand that if we pose things as questions, they don’t seem like misinformation. Your last post was good. I appreciate your kind interaction.

That isa great fable! Our country is awash in pseudo-experts these days.
