A few weekends ago I heard the arguement that Darwin along with Marx and Freud promoted “materialism” in the scientific and philosophical sense, and this led to,among other things, totalitarianism in the 20th century and the decline of Judeo-Christian civilization as humans declared autonomy from God.
Have you heard this argument? How do you respond if so?
I have heard a somewhat better relative of that argument, specifically that “Trying to apply Marx, Freud, or Darwin’s ideas as the basis of a philosophical system is bad theology and has led to various problems.”
