The origin of complex life, eukaryotes, was brought to light by Lynn Margulis, one of the founders of modern ecology with James Lovelock. It is a prime example of ecological Symbiosis, opposite of Darwinian natural selection ideology of conflict. Ecology and evolution look at life from very different points of view, and now it seems that ecology is correct.
