So is it a toss up whether water formation from oxygen and hydrogen is caused or uncaused?

To start off with, I am just as flawed and biased as any average human on the street, so don’t take any criticisms personally. I’m sure if we sat down and had a pint or a cup of coffee we would get along quite well.
What I think is happening is that you are starting with the conclusion and working backwards. This is causing you to use definitions that work for a single and narrow conclusion but it starts to run into problems when applied to everything else. I’ve done similar things myself. I would suggest working from the general and then narrowing down to the specific. That might help your confusion a bit.
