Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Today is Martin Luther King day, and on Sunday we commemorated him in church, as usual. We had special prayers, readings, and music.

Almighty God, by the hand of Moses your servant you led your people out of slavery, and made them free at last: Grant that your church, following the example of your prophet Martin Luther King, may resist oppression in the name of your love, and may strive to secure for all your children the blessed liberty of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

-Book of Common Prayer

We sang “Lift Every Voice and Sing” – the Black National Anthem. First time I’ve sung that in church!

Reading his Letter from the Birmingham Jail is a good way to celebrate as well.

That was a great read. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for that letter. It is deep in theology, and rich in humanity. I think I will need to read it again.
