I thought it time for some respite …this story is rather funny.
Satanic group claim they intend to run a seevice to defile the eucarist…so catholic bishop starts court action to recover that which was “stolen” from them…thus forcing the group to admitt they hadnt actually stolen the Eucarist🤣
Reported in the Detroit Catholic! Part of my old stomping ground.
In reading the article, the controversy seems to center on the concept of transubstantiation of the bread and wine. Even if it was Jesus that they had, He’s been through a lot worse!
It only works if you insist on the Catholic view of the elements. If the elements are symbolic then they can be reinterpretted and defiled. Although, I am a little puzzled as to the necessity or even how they would understand the defilement. IOW what they are trying to acchieve or prove by holding a “Black Euharist”
Richard
- Besides upsetting Catholics who believe in transubstantiation, and other Christians who get upset over any public or private activity of “Satanists”, that’s their thrill. But it shows, IMO, their anti-Christian bias. I have yet to hear of any public announcement of their “defilement” of a Qur’an or a Torah scroll, they’re just a screw-loose bunch of mid-American goofballs.
Satan is the father of lies…so what do you expect of his followers.
Most modern Satanists don’t even believe in Satan
Thanks Nathan. In the Bible, Satan is called “the father of lies”
Jesus said “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, notfrom holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
Who knows what form of it the individuals being discussed follow—it’s all the same. And they DID lie about something, didn’t they? see below…
- LaVeyan Satanism:
This form of Satanism, founded by Anton LaVey, views the seven deadly sins not as things to be avoided, but as natural human desires that should be embraced and used for self-expression and power.
I’m not defending anyone in this story - I’m just pointing out that they probably don’t believe in Satan and laugh at being accused of following him.
Thanks for clarifying. And you have a point…but of course, these people did lie in the initial example. And see this description from a Columbia magazine interview with a follower of that belief–
We believe in the historical idea of Lucifer as a light-bringer, a principled rebel angel willing to stand up against arbitrary rules or authority.
End quote. And no more quotes on this. As they say, the biggest lie of the devil is…
We believe in the historical idea of Lucifer as a light-bringer, a principled rebel angel willing to stand up against arbitrary rules or authority.
Well, to be fair, that sounds like a great description of Jesus too! So maybe I’m a Christian Satanist?
Umm…it is NOT a description of Jesus.
A light-bringer who rebelled against arbitrary rules and authority? How is that not also a good description of Jesus? Besides the miracles, most of what he did was speak truth to power and put religious leaders in their place.
You mean the Jesus Who said ““Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” in Matthew 5: 17)…
…or “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolators, an all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur.” (Revelation 21: 6-8 excerpted).
It’s a long subject, no room here. But Jesus never claimed to be an angel — which was what the woman I quoted described as the object of her adoration.
More to say but no…the Jesus you are describing is partially true, but also largely a leftover from an old performance of Godspell or the like.
I didn’t include the angel imagery on purpose because it doesn’t apply to Jesus, but also because it’s not the core of the description - which is about doing away with arbitrary rules and authority (which perfectly describes the Pharisees and the kinds of codes and laws they were trying to enforce). Matthew 5:17 only reinforces what is being described here.
I am not trying to credit this woman’s ideas of Lucifer as a way to endorse Satanism’s teachings. I’m just saying that her description is basic enough that I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t be in favor of their goals. Arbitrary rules and authority are stupid ideas to be in favor of and I would argue that Jesus was mostly against those things as well!
We don’t have to keep going back and forth on this. I’m sure we agree more than we disagree!
AND
LaVeyan’s are atheists who like to annoy the religious, mostly Catholics. They do a good service by prompting enforcement of the separation of Church and State. Thus the much publicized satanic Christmas displays and school groups. It’s not about teaching satanism at all - it’s about getting religion out of public spaces.
Just to throw this out there, Christianity today has a series of podcasts on the satanic hysteria of the 1980s 1990s that I have just started and sounds interesting. It might be something worth listening to and maybe doing a "book club " type discussion if there is enough interest.
One of my favorite examples was the satanic statue they put up in the Oklahoma capitol building after the OK legislature passed a bill allowing religious expression in the building.
I’m not above enjoying a bit of snark and malicious compliance.
I would say he’s a rebel angel who wanted to substitute his arbitrary desires against principled authority.
I keep expecting a Christmas display with the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
A Flying Spaghetti Monster statue would have made the point better, I think – though I suspect there aren’t any organized FSM churches.
