My mother’s doctor advised her to also smoke while still nursing to help her relax. File this alongside my wife’s grandfather being advised to consume more cream and butter to help lube his arteries to ameliorate the effects of heart disease.

Oh my. I had heard that some docs encouraged smoking to have smaller babies. All this reminds us that we have to get back to the scientific method… evidence based medicine. NIH, CDC…they are there for a reason. Thanks.

And these old tobacco ads serve as a cautionary tale. Big tobacco recruited scientists to their side, which delayed regulation of tobacco for years on end.

My wife’s mother was actually given that very advice when she was pregnant. He said it would make the birth easier. Jeez!

From Jimmy Kimmel Live:

There are many people who believe that the Earth is flat. They’re called ‘Flat Earthers,’ and they have conventions and talks and shirts, the whole deal. Jimmy is always interested in this, so we sent our pal Jake Byrd to a Flat Earth Conference in Dallas, Texas to do some unearthing, and flat earthing.

A heartless “priest” tries scamming an elderly woman out of $9,000.

Good thing the “victim” is Kitboga, a skillful scambaiter with a voice changer, a gray wig, and some impressive improv skills. Enjoy!

The “Priest” Who Tried Scamming Me (for $9,000)

Scambaiters go after scammers and waste their time. They can also gain control of a scammer’s computer and destroy his files, etc.

Talk to your elderly relatives and friends about scammers. It’s a serious problem!

With a telescope like that, about 10 million years (M81 and M82) is the best that’s plausible.

On that last graph … the “black hole created” would at least assure a strike - across all lanes even! So I guess the “optimization” isn’t just referring to strikes, but also more generally to community / planetary survival. That’s appropriate. I guess.
