Interestingly, this find pushes the date of human habitation in the Americas back 5,000 years earlier than what previous evidence suggested to around 21,000-23,000 years ago. There were seeds embedded in the sediment with the footprints that could be carbon dated.

I saw this too. Made me wonder if there were any surviving descendants from this wave. I read these people would have been here from before the last ice age. So perhaps that shortened their stay? I’d better go back and see if I finished the article in case my answers are there.
If the first evidence found indicates they were there 20K years ago, it is likely they had been there for some time. It will be interesting to see if the dates can be pushed back further.
