Depression vs. Joy

Where I found my Joy, and a bonus bible study on Ecclesiastes.

I always feel obligated to try and look up and find it. Actually where I live is somewhere near the few mile final from the local regional airport, so more often than not I’ll see a few regional jets fly over.

Although I wouldn’t say my experiences would count as anything close to depression, I think that it is worth considering how tempting distractions can be to try and deal with sadness or other issues weighing on your mind. I recall, prior to finding this forum, feeling immense mental pressure with regards to the numerous questions I had about Jesus and Christianity. With seemingly “no means” to answer said questions, I would often find ways to try and take my mind off of these questions by watching or reading something else. It didn’t answer the questions but mad me feel “joy.” So,

I would say it depends on what is weighing you down. If you were like me, trying to get satisfactory answers to big questions would have given me great joy. If you are grieving from loss, it may take time before you feel “permitted” to feel joy again. Generally though, trying to help those going through things can certainly provide joy to both parties involved.

Sometimes, absolutely nothing.

I can empathize with you, but I have no answer. For me, prayer and seeing my doctor helped. I’m not sure whether it will help all the time, but that is all I feel I can do. I feel like we often have to fight for joy by keeping going.

I pray your joy returns because we do have a lot of things to be joyous about.

It may seem shallow, but getting my truck back today, which made it possible to complete three stalled projects, helped immensely.

Hardly shallow.

Feeling surrounded by insurmountable obstacles would certainly make one feel that even normal amounts of control are now beyond reach, and continued attempts are pointless. Particularly after one has been trying.

“Try harder” can’t work; it’s been tried already.

Bravo for the wins. Claim every one.

Sounds a little like a country music song. “My wife took my truck and ran off with my best friend, and I miss that pickup with the 8 foot bed.”
