I am always amazed at how much was known about the fossil record and geological evidence for a very old earth before Darwin. Even more amazing is that the arguments against science from 200 years ago are still being used by creationists today. How much better off the world would be today if the sensible approach taken by Silliman and Hitchcock to resolve the seeming conflict between religion and science had been adopted by more Christians.
