Especially all these orderly arrangements of characters on my screen!
I think that illustrates what the one biologist was saying: any new dots keep falling on the line, filling gaps, which makes them intermediate.
Which in a way is boring; it would be so extremely fun if something showed up that was clearly off the line!
Each new dot creates 2 new gaps!!! According to creationist logic, every fossil intermediate makes evolution less certain.
Besides the question of what qualifies as “proof”, it is also necessary to clarify exactly what is being asked.
Does the fossil record give any indication that the process of creating new kinds of organisms has not followed natural law-type processes? No, nothing has been found that does not fit such a model.
Does this evidence allow us to rule out all possibility of more miraculous intervention? No, absolutely ruling such out is not possible based on data. (Of course, one could rely on philosophical or theological grounds to rule options in or out, but the basis for that judgement is not the data itself.)
Is the impossibility of absolutely ruling out some miraculous-style a good reason to insist that there must have been some miraculous-style activity? No.
Does any of this tell us anything about the degree of God’s involvement or control? No, God can work through natural laws and otherwise.
