Can the Book of Genesis Be Reconciled with the Evolutionary History of the World Without a “God of the Gaps”?

Says who?

More sci-fi from the person who denies science.

@dad, would you say that what you are presenting here corresponds to what the apostles preached?

Says the bible. Both in the past and in the future.
Science would need a helicopter to reach the level of sci fi

Yes. They believed.

Where? Chapter, verse, translation choice.

This makes no sense at all.

Preach the word. Reprove, exhort, correct. Casting down imaginations and anything that opposes and exalts itself above God…etc etc etc

As for natural only, spirit blind godless so called science, yes, it does not even reach the level of sci fi. It would need an elevator to reach fairy tale level

Evidently in “the word” there is nothing that supports a year of 360 days. When you post something you have made out of whole cloth why would anyone actually believe anything you have to say?

Not “so called” as science is by definition limited to the natural world and does not address God one way or the other. I am sure you have enjoyed the fruits of science often in your everyday life, such as sitting there posting on the internet.

Believed what, @dad? My question was not whether the apostles believed something. I was asking whether you think what you are presenting here is what they actually preached.

So just to make the question completely clear: do you believe the apostles preached that the Earth existed before the Sun, stars, and Moon?

You raise an interesting question and according to AI the New Testament doesn’t directly address the shape of the earth.

So we really don’t know what the apostles actually taught. But given the NT was written in Greek I would lean toward them knowing. And before dad jumps in here, I would also point out the NT authors freely reinterpreted the OT and would have no problem with ignoring the flat earth references while still accepting the OT as authoritative.

Except there is. In Noah’s day and in Revelation a year is 360 days. Look it up
That is the quintessential essence of what false science is. Godless. Not having God in your knowledge. As for posting on the net, for your information that involves spirits as well. Look at some posts on forums for example. We see both God’s Spirit, and other spirits in full costume.

One way to test it. Post something they taught and we’ll see if it matches or not, In regards to Genesis, Adam and Noah etc, they were in sync.

Why imagine that the apostles would do dark things on God’s orders? Nowhere is the silly flat earth thing taught in the bible. No cover up needed. God brings things to light, not covers them in darkness.

I did. No where is the “year” defined to be a solar year which is what you just assumed. The Egyptians were using a 365 day solar year during the time of Moses so he would have known about it. The Jewish lunar calendar is based on a 354 day “year” with adjustments to keep the calendar in sync with the seasons. Or are you arguing that God didn’t know what He was doing?

Oh but it is. The Biblical Cosmos is Three-Tiered—No Question

No. Any twisted verse you may desire to use to preach a flat earth is out of context. As for the year in Noah’s day, here it is
"The 360 day year first appears in the story of Noah. In Genesis 7:11 the deluge starts in the 600th year of Noah’s life, in the 2nd month on the 17th day of the month.

Genesis 8:3 tells us that after 150 days the waters abated. This was the 17th day of the 7th month. Exactly 5 months had passed. 150/5=30. Therefore we know that a month lasted 30 days. 12 months lasted 360 days.

There are also 360 day, prophetic years in the books of Daniel and Revelation. Here we find that “42 months”, “1,260 days” and “Time, times and half a time” all express the same period namely three and a half years." https://www.prophecy-workshop.com/the-360-day-prophetic-year Hoo ha

How would you know given you didn’t read the paper?

Those are “prophetic” years, not solar years. Like I said you just assumed year always means a solar year and it doesn’t.

From the 17th day of the 2nd month of 2025 to the 17th day of the 7th month of 2025 was 150 days. Exactly 5 months had passed. 150/5 = 30. Therefore we know that a month lasted 30 days. 12 months lasted 360 days. So years in the 21st century have 360 days.

Is that correct, @dad?

Or is there a hole in your argument big enough to sail an Ark through?

(I’d get some  but I suspect the :light_bulb: in the projector is broken)

The bible tells me so. Overruled
They were actual days Noah was on the ark etc. Real days. The prophetic simply means future. The future also will see the 360 day year.

Deut. 34:8 and 21:13, and Num. 20:29 where mourning for the dead is ordered for a “full Month,” and is carried on for thirty days.
A month was 30 days

The Flood calendar is based upon 30-day months with a year of 360 days, not upon the 29.5 days of a lunar calendar with a lunar year of 354 days. Scripture does offer some evidence in support of this assumption. The period between the start of the Flood on 2/17/600 and the resting of the ark on 7/17/600 is said to occupy “one hundred fifty days” (Genesis 7:11, 24; 8:4). This would hold true only if the months were 30 days long." A New Flood Chronology Based on Seven-Day Creation Cycles | Answers Research Journal
Also in Revelation we see the 360 day year.

" We know that the flood began on the second month and it lasted 150 days. Now the next verse will help us understand that each month contains 30 days each: “And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat” (Genesis 8:4). From the second month to the seventh month we have a total of 5 months; then if we divide the 150 days by those 5 months we find that a month in the Bible has 30 days:

150 ÷ 5 = 30" Bible Chronology Timeline - Page 13

I think your question goes to the root of the YEC dichotomy which is understanding whether the Apostles believed Moses spoke an accommodating language on par with ANE cosmogony or whether God revealed a cosmogony we must force into modern scientific inquiry. I haven’t read all the 500+ replies but I see two schools of thought :

One school (dad’s YEC school) holds Genesis 1-11 as a purity test. Sit the ANE cosmogony against modern science, then point the need to oppose what YEC projects as ‘atheistic science’ . The other school accepts the accommodating picture, grades it against modern scientific knowledge and discard Genesis away as ancient myth, where YECs are seen as obtuse science deniers. Beautiful in its way but quite difficult to defend on Scriptural grounds with the NT.

Both schools agree on what Genesis ought to be. They only disagree on the grade and the question remains : how to meet both ends? I don’t have a clear answer for now, unless we reconsider the issue of concordism.

And of course the apostles only preached a Created world with a Fall. Jesus pointed back to a flood and forward to a judgment. They did it inside the same ANE cosmogony everyone in the room shared. What was never done on Scriptural grounds though, it was asking whether that picture was more than mere accommodation void of scientific implications.

I think there’s a false dilemma that gets in a way of seeing Genesis 1-11 something other than a battleground, and maybe @dad explaining in his own words what’s at stake might be helpful to sort this out.

What’s at stake? Well, for believers, it is important to know God is true and real. Totally powerful and able to do what He said. If God did not really created man and the earth and heavens as the Genesis record states clearly, then how could He actually raise us from the dead? How could He and the Father and spirit actually dwell in us as we speak? How could He rule the world one day with us? If He basically lied (or was inept, confused, or kidding) about being the real creator, what else could we believe? Who decides what to toss out as baloney and what to keep?
