How can one person model the culture of BioLogos in a heavily antievolutionist place? How can one build a local BioLogos-like community?
Dallas is thick with opposition to the sciences of origins, though we do have six universities here.

Be a gentle non-conformist in the presence of the culturally conforming. That could mean simple refusal to get on “ra-ra, go-team” bandwagons in settings where the subject comes up, even in passing. Let people see that Christians exist who don’t just conform to expectations that are in denial of evidence. Maybe less gentleness is required when in the presence of the actively deceiving who have become more than just deceived, but have appointed themselves as “soldiers of the cause”. But even there, care is needed since there is a difference between the “man-of-the-street” who fancies himself a soldier, vs. the Ken Hamms and church leaders of the world who have enough education to be expected to know better. The former may just be a typical blow-hard who was easily swayed and just (like many of us much of the time) is in the habit of “thinking aloud” - even if in strident tones, whereas the latter can and should be treated without kid gloves. Most of us don’t actually cross paths with them as much.
Also, be ready to point them to more reliable, scientifically and biblically informed resources. The Biologos site provides a rich wealth of these, not-to-mention being one of those rich resources itself.
