Either its a 2000-3000 year old mamoth or… 2 whales somehow ended up 400km inland in Alaska!
Interesting article! Nice that it affirms carbon dating, genetic analysis and interrelatedness of whales and other mammals!
They are definitely whale plates as the mitochondrial DNA analysis demonstrates. I’m not sure why you think this is a “cockup” on the part of the theory of evolution. Even the scientists agreed that the morphology of the plates won’t allow differentiation between whale and mammoth.
From the article:
Both mammoth and whale experts agreed it was impossible to identify the specimens based on physical appearance alone: ancient DNA would be essential to “secure the specimens’ true identity.”
What did you find wanting in their explanations?
They came up with a few possible explanations. The first is an “inland whale incursion” through ancient inlets and rivers, which seems very unlikely given the vast size of these whale species and the very small size of Alaska’s inland water bodies (let alone their dearth of appropriate whale food). Though the authors note “wayward cetaceans” are not entirely unheard of.
Perhaps the bones were instead transported from a distant coastline by ancient humans. This has been documented in other regions, but never in interior Alaska.
Lastly, they can’t rule out scientific error. Otto Geist’s collections came from all corners of Alaska, and he donated many specimens to the university during the early 1950s. Could there have been a mix-up at the museum?
I have a cockup of my own is in 1953 DNA was found to be the Recepie of Life. I think all life was created and adjusted to be able to live in the Environment it exists in, giving Us the appearance of Evolution. The adjustment was done by angels under Gods Supervision. Of course some creatures ceasesed to multiply, especially the Dinosaurs. To me their time of Their Extinction is when the Fossil Fuels were created by God for Us to have Free Energy. This now allows Us Humans to multiply even more today for Us to decide and believe in God and His granting of Eternal Life to Us.
If dinosaurs went extinct when fossil fuels were created, how come all dinosaur fossils are found above Carboniferous coal deposits?
Possibly happening Twice.
Dinosaurs went extinct twice?
No whatever the event was to cause the oil creation. One suggestion is the Asteroid hitting Earth.
Coal and oil are found in Carboniferous strata, which lie below Cretaceous strata such as the rocks containing the Chicxulub impact crater linked to dinosaur extinction.
Why do you think this would result in evidence that so strongly points towards evolution?
The other tern is Mutation to adapt to be able to survive, of course I’m delving into Creationism vs. Evolution. I’m of the Creator and God’s Creation.
Hmmm. I wonder if this is an accurate description of the process of mutation. This sounds like mutation is deliberate. If so, by whose deliberation? And if by deliberation, by what means?
I don’t think we see this happening in the process of conceiving children.
This is the topic of Life’s beginning existence, Evolution & including Mutation are a Darwin and De Vries theory. I had previously started I’m not of Darwinian Theory, I am of Creation and my Today’s Theory is the Angels with God did the Creation of DNA of all life. I don’t believe it was started by a lightning bolt to make the first cell as some suggested. Which came first the Chicken or The Egg, I say neither, God created both together.
The idea that fossil fuels come from dinosaurs is a common misconception somewhat created by oil company advertisements. The vast majority of fossil fuels comes from plants, not animals.
Plants and algae convert CO2 into O2 but if the plants decay the O2 gets converted right back into CO2. It is only when an excess of the plant matter gets trapped and compressed into fossil fuels that the atmosphere changes to a higher percentage of O2 opposed to CO2. This had to happen before there could be large animals like the dinosaurs when there was enough O2 for them to breathe. The Carboniferous plants were mostly giant ferns and mosses. But it was higher temperature algae and plankton filling the oceans which produced the reservoirs of natural gas and oil. Modern flower bearing plants is a later adaptation to animals.
The plants growing in marshes and wetlands in that era were the source of most of the coal produced.
However you understand life and the diversity of it to occur, it’s important to understand properly what you are arguing against. Otherwise you are arguing against something else.
I just recently found this out (after 70+ years). I was watching a geology youtube about the formation of oil deposits and was startled to discovery it is algae.
Petroleum mostly comes from marine algae, whereas coal is mostly land plants, to clarifty exactly what is being referenced. Although any organism, if preserved away from oxygen, can break down into such molecules over time, chemical analyses indicate the main sources. It’s also ecological common sense that the most abundant organisms would be the main sources of organic material.
Buildup of large quantities of dead organisms requires plenty of time, as does turning it to coal or petroleum. A global flood of the sort envisioned by modern young-earth claims would destroy everything rather than producing concentrated organic-rich deposits.
If anything it seems to confirm the timeline that mammoths went extinct well before 2000-3000 years ago. It would probably be more surprising from the perspective of geologic time and evolution if it was confirmed to actually be a mammoth living that late. On the other hand, it probably wouldn’t overturn the theory of evolution since it is not inconceivable that an ancient animal species could live long than expected. Bring us a credible scientific paper that fossil bunnies have been found in Cambrian strata and that there is no way they could have been introduced from younger layers and then we will talk.
The last known woolly mammoths died crudely 4000 years ago, on the island of Wrangel. Continental populations of mammoths died much earlier, probably due to a combination of climate change and hunting.
Mammoth bones have been utilized for thousands of years after the animals died. The bones are large and may last at least tens of thousands of years if they are buried in frozen soil. In Russia, there are still professional mammoth bone hunters that collect mammoth bones that become exposed as the permafrost melts and the following erosion reveals the past. Maybe a bit similar phenomenon as the fossil hunters in USA, except that the fossil hunters search remains that are millions of years old.
