A few things for new users and a reminder for regulars

There have been an influx of new users over the last few weeks, so I wanted to highlight a couple things.

  1. We expect people to be civil and give their discussion partners the benefit of the doubt, so please try to be generous. Please avoid using the forum to post long manifestos about how you are right and other people are wrong. That’s not dialogue.

  2. In order for everyone to better follow the discussion when replies are not nested, it helps if you quote a snippet of the specific post you are replying to in order to provide context. You can do this by selecting the text in the post you are responding to and hitting the gray “quote” option that appears. You can do this multiple times in a single post.

  3. The forum guidelines are linked at the top of the forum home page under FAQ/Guidelines. If you feel a post is violating the guidelines, instead of responding irately, please just flag it.

  4. You can contact the moderators by clicking on your avatar in the upper right, hitting the envelope button, and sending a private message to @moderators. Please feel free to use this if you have questions about how to use the forum features or would like to bring their attention to problems or concerns.

  5. Please try to generally stick to the topic of the OP. If you would like to pursue a slightly tangential topic, click on the time stamp of any post and select “+new topic” to create a linked thread. Or just start a fresh new topic from the home page using the gray “+new topic” button in the upper right. Moderators can split topics if they wander too far afield. If you think this would be beneficial, send a PM to the moderators telling them which topic and the relevant post numbers that should be made into a new thread.

We appreciate your participation and hope your time here is productive!
