The YEC premise of 24hour “ yom “ requires God to be earthbound to a single location. The length of day is directly related to your geographical location within the earth’s atmosphere.
The Earth is a rotating globe .
Its always in daylight and night simultaneously, 1/2 & 1/2 .
In space its always “ night “ yet the sun is always shining.
In Barrow Alaska a single uninterrupted night can last a month long .
If one traveled west matching the speed of the earths rotation at noon , then noon would last indefinitely. ( or at least as long as the sun and earth exists ) essentially creating an endless day with nothing more than movement.
24hour on earth only applies to earth , some other planets have different lengths of day .
Before the earth existed, where was God standing that 24hours was relevant?
When arguing God is all powerful, a spirit , not confined by distance , size , location or physics, then the hardline stance of 24hours loses its meaning.
The reference in 2nd peter concerning the comparison of God’s day to man’s, suggests God’s perception of “day” is fluid . ( ..” is as “ )
Can anyone show me a detrimental flaw in my reasoning here ?
( please , no flat earth responses , im not interested )
For the story in Genesis the location is assumed to be the Near East, which always has days/nights of approximately equal length depending on the season. A day, as defined as sunset to sunset, is always going to have the same length.
Time really has no meaning for God so actual duration doesn’t apply.
I might add , that if a person assumes God isnt sarcastic or flippant about “ God saw that it was good “ … then God directly witnessed the passage of days, seasons and years in a single “ yom “ .
IF one were arguing for the general YEC 24hr days literal interpretation , that means God isnt a reliable eye witness, we cant assume he actually witnessed seasons and years in the 24hour day without even further reaching for special pleading. Changing it to “ it will be good “
The point being - if God isnt being literal about witnessing it , then its not literal.
If God is using special perception mankind doesn’t have, then the entire account isnt from a human perception and 24hrs is again meaningless.
Otherwise, its special pleading for just that day . Making the account inconsistent and unreliable. ( edited for clarity )
Genesis was written by humans and nominally inspired by God (not dictated). In that sense, it makes sense to ground the text in something humans perceive and understand.
