Organisms aren’t necessarily intrinsically directed towards survival and reproduction. Natural selection is extremely biased against organisms which don’t survive or reproduce, so any leaning towards survival and reproduction will rapidly come to dominate life, and any leaning away from it will be eliminated.
(There are a few exceptions e.g. eusociality or kin selection, but in general survival and reproduction instincts will lead to more offspring)
