No, they have not made a new life form, even if the single-celled organisms have evolved they are still single-celled and do not pass the criteria needed for evolutionary theory to proceed.
For the natural example of simple green algae showing the transition from single-celled to multi-celled, Chlamydomonas is the single-celled form and Volvox is the most complex in the group; there are several intermediates as well. (Volvox are the algae that look like little soccer balls.)
