I would not want readers here to take my usage as standard for ID, or to assume that all ID people use “evolution” exactly as I do. Rather, I would wish them to read each ID author carefully in context, to determine how each is using the word. This is somewhat inconvenient, but it is necessary, based on the diversity of usage.

The convenient solution is to not use the phrase “Intelligent Design” all by itself… but to add a qualifier that makes it clear WHICH version of “Intelligent Design” is being used.

I would propose: “Old Earth Intelligent Design” (OE.ID).

As always, everything revolves around the idea of “Old Earth”.

Nonetheless, even where there is common ground, there has been no co-operation against the common foe. Behe accepts common descent, and every EC leader has always known this; yet they have attacked him more often than they have attacked Coyne or Dawkins. That’s not the way to fight the proud claims of materialist atheism. That’s why I’m pleased to see Darrel Falk’s praise of Denton and Discovery, and pleased that BioLogos is giving Denton’s book a fair hearing. It’s a sign that maybe TE/EC is finally starting to see that in the bigger picture, it is more important to try to find at least some common grounds with ID than to carry on an internecine conflict among theists which only makes materialist atheism stronger.

If ID was JUST focused on the Atheists, it would be much easier on BioLogos. But we have some very ambitious ID folks who tilt against the Atheists AND against the Old Earthers of BioLogos!

But if we can keep herding the kittens … and reminding people that it is OK with the goals of BioLogos when Christians conceive of God being VERY busy and miraculous with the genetic composition of Earth’s life forms (either by vigorously controlling the ecosystems-ala-Roger-that-shape-genetics . . . and/or controlling DNA molecules directly!).

How can we fail when we have the Power of God behind both of our movements . . . and the plain observations of our senses regarding the antiquity of our solar system, our planet, and our ancestors!
