I recently watched this 2-hour November 2018 Rubin Report where both Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro are guests. I know this may look borderline political for our forum here, given that the title of the interview is: “Religion, Trans Activism, and Censorship.” But the interview itself goes way deeper than that title suggests and intersects with much that people here would find of interest. As a “knee-jerk critic” of Shapiro, based on very little actual first-hand listening, I have guessed that I probably would disagree with a lot of what he stands for. But I feel like this 2 hour interview gave me a good view into his heart (and admittedly is probably the only talk of his I’ve listened to in length), and I found much more agreement with Shapiro than I was expecting.
But more to the point, I’m posting this here because Peterson brings up evolutionary biology as he so often does in a context of historical religious culture. And they also share interesting thoughts about atonement and the asked-for sacrifice of Isaac (which is a hot topic in the “inerrancy and mass slaughter” thread). I could have posted this there (and will mention it there), but meanwhile wanted this to have its own thread in case more discussion is forthcoming specific to this video. Some of the matters of interest I just mentioned may happen somewhere close to about an hour in. But the whole interview is worth a listen I think.
