Editing for readability and grammar is a different process than editing for scientific merit. If the scientific argument is lacking it doesn’t matter how good the grammar is.
Absolutely!
This website has much lower prices, I think, for copy-editing. But $150/hour seemed like bargain basement for what you’ve provided for free.
I found that editing for “readability and grammar” plus spelling and punctuation was harder than just taking the person’s outline and research and writing a paper using their own style.
Happily I rarely worried about the content; that was up to them to provide!
However, good or adequate science presented with poor grammar makes it hard to follow. If the writing is unclear, I can’t follow what they did.
We’ve just uploaded an almost entirely revised version of our paper on the preprint server, incorporating all the feedback we received. It should now be much more comprehensive and clearer, making it easier for a wide audience, including non-experts, to understand. We’ve also included a table of contents to help everyone navigate the paper according to their preference… However, to ensure we reach as many people as possible, I’m hoping to get feedback from individuals on this forum who consider themselves to be laypeople or non-experts. I’d like to reignite the discussion around whether this article is clear and readable enough for lay people to understand its merits and shortcomings, if anyone is interested. If not, I still deeply appreciate all the discussions and comments I’ve received. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and many blessings!
If it doesn’t have your name on it, you haven’t done that.
