Taking one verse out of context means nothing, besides the death is n physical but spiritual. Christ’s sacrifice is spiritual, so the death involved will also be.
As the Garden story cannot be real, we should take the trees at face value. if you want to believe that God did not wnt us to understand the difference between good and evil so be it.

The consequence of sin is separation from God, Christ breaks that barrier back down again. all Paul was trying to explain is the Adam was the first sinner, and Christ was the one nd only answer to sin. All this rubbish about Original or corrupting sin is misreading Paul.
