It was launched in 1909. The type of power tools they had available were not what would be considered power tools today.

Indeed it is useless speculation: scripture is supposed to tell us about God, not satisfy someone’s scientific curiosity.
When the topic constitutes useless speculation, I prefer to follow the admonition of the Apostle and avoid it.
We know that generation skipping may have occurred. An example is the post-flood Cainan included in Luke that was skipped in Genesis. It is not erroneous to leave someone out of the family line, if they are not notable. A grandfather or great grandfather still can be said to beget a grandson even though it was not directly.
Do you think Seth’s line would get in the habit of naming their children with the same or similar names to Cain’s line from two generations before? (Irad/Jared, Mehujael/Mahalalel, Methusael/Methuselah, Lamech/Lamech) I see these names as symbolic and should belong to the same generation. So there may be a couple names missing in the line of Cain.
In looking at the post-flood names alongside Tubal-cain, we see that Japheth has a son named Tubal, Ham has a son named Canaan, and from Luke we see that Shem also has a grandson named Cainan. So its not out of the question that Tubal-cain may really belong two or three generations after the Flood.
With a local flood interpretation it is quite possible that Cain’s descendants were completely out of the region. Cain dwelt to the ‘east’ of Eden (Mesopotamia) which could be some place like Iran. Also, the word ‘east’ may not necessarily mean just that, but any place away from it. The root word means “to project (one self), i.e. precede”. This goes along with Cain being a fugitive and a vagabond in the land.
‘Nod’ means “vagrancy” - wandering from place to place.
Is this satire?
Or “the face of the land”. Taking “face of the earth” in YEC fashion would mean Cain lived in/on the ocean or even in space.
The author doesn’t have enough literary sense to develop satire – he thinks metaphor, poetry, simile, hyperbole, etc. are all just objective reporting.
Hard Scripture and basic facts from Scripture such as long lives are not speculation.

Yes – so treating it as a science book, as though Genesis were making scientific assertions, is foolish.
We can treat is as a record of creation and know where we came from and the earth and heavens. Obviously science is lost in space on these issues and in the dark. Perhaps you can enlighten us as to a few scientific assertions Genesis makes?
The prophesies of the bible are also contrary to prophesies of science. Diametrically opposed. So if we divest science of all future false prophesies, and false models of the far past, how much is there left? How to make better toilet paper or nukes etc.
