The flood was something big, and wickedness returned after it. Noah was the only righteous one before the flood, and then what did he do after? He got drunk and his grandson laid with his wife.
Lifespans changed in Shem’s day (950 to 600), again in Arphaxad’s day (600 to 400), again in Peleg’s day (400 to 200), again in Nahor’s day (200 to 150)… This reduction in lifespans and when they begot children belongs to their typology (they are not human years) but stems from the dialing down from macro changes before the flood, to minute changes in individual species after the flood.
Compare v.5 and 6. Something is happening spiritually to Job’s children. They are presenting themselves before the Lord with their burnt offerings.
Job 1:5 And when the days of feasting were over, Job would send for his children to purify them, rising early in the morning to offer burnt offerings for all of them. For Job thought, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular practice.
Job 1:6 One day the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them.
Another example is Jesus calling Satan out in Peter.
Yes both are true. The bible does confirm the account in other places. And all we need to do is believe. There is nothing we need to ‘interpret’ about how long Adam lived. About how God created the first woman. About there having been a garden planted by God etc. We simply believe it.
Those were beads and such. Tubal-cain was an ‘artificer’ of iron. The word is latash (3913 לָטַשׁ) - (properly) to hammer out (an edge), i.e. to sharpen
@BuffaloMax17 I was trying to think of something or things that might help a kid see how a moving object could move in a flat circle, and I remembered two (a) the Spirograph and (b) a Plumb-bob Governor.
The flood was big. Not when the sudden lifespan changes started though. It also makes more sense that all the migrating of animals happened when the world was one big landmass.
Arphaxad was born 2 years after the flood. He lived to 438 years old. If the change happened in Peleg’s day (He lived 239 years) 439 means 437 years before Babel. So when Peleg dies 239 years later Arphaxad would have lived 199 years more. No one born after Peleg’s lived that long. So no post Peleg people lived the long ages of the previous people. The only ones that lived longer than the new averages were people born pre Peleg. !!
Job praying for his children does not sound unusual to me. Not sure why you posted a verse about angels along with that.
If there was a change in nature it would effect both pre- and post-Peleg people. Pre-Peleg people would have their lifespans reduced at the time of Peleg, otherwise the world would have two natures at once. Eber (pre-Peleg) was still living after Abraham died. A change in nature as well as dual natures didnt happen.
Look at and compare the parts of the verses that I highlighted.
Fact: We know ancient people, including the writers of the Old Testament, thought the earth was flat.
Stop trying to make out that a flat orbit infers some sort of belief in a flat earth. Quit your false witness, or more bluntly your bare faced lies, about what other posters are saying.
