I Have a Friend Who Believes Science Disproves Faith, Part 1 | The BioLogos Forum

@DaveGustavsen

I would first like to thank you for responding… it is very much appreciated indeed! Especially when commenters spend sufficient effort preparing a well seasoned commentary it’s nice to have a reply.

In your second part, when you ask, “Was Galileo really contradicting Scripture?” in relation to the earth, the sun, and the planets, you state, “Not at all! He was contradicting the church’s interpretation of Scripture, which didn’t consider the literary genre very well. And because the early church failed to recognize that, they thought they were defending the Bible, but they were actually defending a wrong interpretation of the Bible.” Is it not possible that the church today is making the same mistake?—The anthropomorphic literary genre of (the white haired bearded man in the sky). This, no doubt, was intended for preparing Christians to be in subjection to Yahweh (the higher self), to the collective social conscience, and to the King of Kings.

By referring that your statement, “Today we’re going to look at the belief that science disproves faith,” is a wrong statement, I mean that science is not necessarily disproving the end claimed by biblical faith (no more war, crime, sickness and death, peace on earth, etc., but rather disproving the white haired bearded man in the sky “doctrine.” Although I am aware that there are many who also reject the positive end claims of biblical faith—most of these must obviously not want to see that kind of world take hold because it would disrupt their lifestyle and their free pass in society.

I apologize for not giving any reasons for my conclusions about Kepler and a panentheistic worldview. If you are interested in my reasons, I recently wrote a detailed account of my claims in six comments beginning here (don’t forget to scroll down to get to the heart of the matter). Regarding psychology, psychiatry, and criminology providing “the moral and spiritual knowledge that humans have craved since the beginning of civilization”—this is an extensive subject in itself. I cherish and hold dear the moral and spiritual knowledge of the Holy Scriptures, since this knowledge guides a person in all areas of his or her life. The psychology, psychiatry, and criminology aspect in this respect provides the wisdom and insight into understanding why and how the human spirit becomes fragmented and diseased. Here science investigates the cause and effect, action and reaction, of human behavior and its consequential outcomes. Schizophrenia, manic depression, and psychopathy are the consequences of the broken human spirit incurred through an imbalance between the conscious and subconscious mind. Again, if you are interested in the reasons for my claims you will find an in-depth elaboration here in post #85686 and #85694. http://biologos.org/blog/is-creation-from-nothing-obsolete
