Good resources on textual evidence of allegorical creation?

As in the famous story of the Tortoise and the Hare, no one reads it as as a true story, they take a moral message from it.

Specifically, I would like Sam B’s take on the meaning of allegory, because he wrote the OP, and also because his question assumes his reader is reading Genesis as allegory. His understanding of the word allegory is key here, at least to my thinking. I don’t believe he has as yet answered my question.
