Bond strength and lattice arrangements can be found on charts or seen with an electron microscope (this is the point at which I dropped getting a geology degree; knowing all the different crystal arrangements and how they can transform had students who passed the course on crystals sleeping only four or five days a week, something I decided I wasn’t going to do to myself [my roommate took the course and was up all night memorizing crystal structures three nights a week]).

Pressure can be calculated from the depth in a geological formation; it’s pretty much a direct function of the mass of the rock above. Temperature generally comes from the same information plus some physics – lots of math involved here.

Is it fair to ask if pressure and heat is calculated on stationary, slow and fast movement of rocks from above the sample and what would be the difference between the 3 calculations. What would you observe from a crystal of the same aged rocks, one being in a fast moving rock formation compared to a stationary rock formation.
