Unfortunately, you are describing the “Ken Ham” approach to hermeneutics. The “plain meaning” to us is often not the right meaning. Like you said, maybe it’s good we have to work a bit. It should keep us humble at least.

I was very pleased when Jim Stump posted the response that Josh Hayashi & Diane Sweeney gave to Ken Ham’s tirade against the ‘Author of Life’ video series they prepared for BioLogos. (your link above). I was so pleased to have played even a small part as a science consultant for that series. I realize that I must come across (to some, at least) as a critic of O.T. in total. That is NOT so, It’s just that if sufficient care is not taken to put Genesis into proper context (as BioLogos has taken so much care to do) giving it a literal reading (as often is the case with Ham-led YECs) can be a case of 'the road to Hell is paved with good intentions’. At least that is my opinion.
