Those are all tiny ones! I go for the ones that are four to six inches across.

Those are beautiful dishes, but I wonder if eating them, with the shells on ,would put a dent in my enamel. I have never had any of those… interesting! Thanks

I went to the Nationa Arboretum, Staffordshire, England today. it is the national memorial park with over 1000 individual plaques and several hundred memorials, but it is the nature that we go back for. The pictures below were taken on the perimeter by a river,I am not a flora specialist so if anyone can identify them I would be grateful

I did take some dragonflies, butterflies and swans but will leave those for another time

Thanks for any help

I was glad to finally get some time off. For several days now I’ve been working 16 hours on, 8 off, 16 on 8 off. Now I’m going to be off about 6 hours tonight and do a 14 hour day and then off for two days. Though on Saturday I have to work on my van for a few hours and cut the grass. Probably hike again Sunday. Maybe Saturday.

But none of those are my favorites, even within their categories(*).

(*) The categories being ‘flowers’, ‘mushrooms’, and ‘kinda brown bits of litter’.

My day has been spent with my animals basically. Sat with my cat listening to podcasts. Then my calico she likes to stare out the windows like an old person. She will look out one window and watch something on the street. Then run to the other window to continue watching it and then run to the final window to get in another few seconds of staring lol. So today we just spent time looking out the windows at wildlife in the backyard. Then went on a short hour long hike with the dog. Have not eaten yet since I only eat between 12pm and 6pm. Going to make stuffed mushrooms I think.

On my new schedule I’ll start having more time man’s desire to get better pics. Though I like 90°f the last few weeks of real feel at 110°f was enough to make me not feel like hiking especially after 10 hour days in temps up to 140°f in the mill.

Now my shift is after over a year 11am-930pm. So I’ll still be asleep usually by 1030/11pm and up by 530/6am. I’ll hike in the morning and got on the gym and then get through work.

I thought it was funny. I was the only one who volunteered to go to the second shift. They just needed 3 people. So the other two will be alternated from the group but I will be permanently there… or so it’s supposed to go. So the second shift is just 3 people is read of the 10 on first. They asked me if I’m ok working by myself for 10 hours and I said yeah. I’ve lived mostly alone since I was 17. I’m use to being by myself. Especially at work where often it was just me working on a project for 40-50 hours total alone. They asked if i would get spooked out alone working in the shop with half the lights off and the all doors open. They leave the lights on just above my work station and elsewhere it’s dark. I was like yeah… I’m an adult lol. He said that they dropped this shift because no one wanted to work it in the past and two people died at this machine and so some thinks there ghosts or something. I told them I don’t believe in ghosts.

But anyways soon I look forward to it being cooler in the mornings and me having more time to just kneel and examine things.

The most I’ve been out in is a real feel of about 150 F (I didn’t have a hygrometer with me, and the nearest weather station has much lower humidity levels) at the south end of the Salton Sea in late July. Being out and working hard (some of the time) for a few hours in a feels-like of 125 F is about all that I can take.

It definitely gets too hot at times. Especially when even in the forest it’s 100°f and horseflies and yellow jackets are like a little zombie swarm bitting. It makes it hard for me to have the patience to kneel down and really study a plant. But the mornings are 70s-80s and wonderful.

Some kind of Carex.

A spider in some native liatris.

A cute jumping spider hiding in their silk and leaf home staring out an opening at me. They really have the cutest faces.

Now I guess it’s time to get ready for my 10 hour work day lol. Also realized to not feel rushed I’ll probably go hiking one day and then the gym the next day. Just keep alternating them so that I can not be stressed about time budget on each day.
