Creation Photos Around the World

We’re having a visit from cyclone Freddy today. Thankfully glancing the northern tip of the island. But it is making for some interesting weather!

Gross, horrible for the snails and fascinating all at once.

And that sort of thing is why people should never eat terrestrial or aquatic snails raw. They are vectors for a number of exciting parasites like schistosomiasis, rat lungworm, avian eye flukes, and assorted other parasitic worms.

That is a sacrifice I’m willing to make not to develop eyes like that. I’ll just put the butter and white wine on something else less risky.

Clockwise rotation – more evidence that you’re in the southern hemisphere (but I don’t think you took that picture).

Avian ones are okay, and maybe amphibian? :slightly_smiling_face:

Those would probably be equally bad, being ones that don’t need salt water around them.

That was tongue in cheek, like X-Cargo. (Avian ones wouldn’t either, or did I miss that you included them?)

Avian ones are not known to exist, but if they did, they would probably be an issue in the same ways.

I’m trying to picture one with wings, and I’m having some difficulty. I probably should have said aerial, not avian, for their environment.

How about pteropods?

They are weird pelagic snails, many (like the Clione) with reduced shells.

All of these pictures are from MolluscaBase

Gorgeous!

When you find one we can call an aeropod, let me know. :slightly_smiling_face:

The pelagic sea slug Glaucus and the pterotracheoids are also convergent:

Wow, especially the first.

Aerope is a (junior homonym of a crustacean) genus of land snails.

Aegopodium is the genus for Ground Elder.

Never saw a sea slug like that before. I’ve seen many extravagantly beautiful ones in photographs or videos but nothing with a body formed like that, usually more ribbon like.

I’m still looking for a flying snail, and not one on top of a speeding car.

Tornadoes have probably managed that.

Being streamlined is more significant for swimming than crawling, certainly.
