Can the Book of Genesis Be Reconciled with the Evolutionary History of the World Without a “God of the Gaps”?

There was no Earth rotating at that point. Please see my reply to ShiningCloud above.

The 4 hour rate is a scientific estimate:

Ethan, thank you for taking the time to answer both my questions and the objections raised by others. Your later comments have helped me understand the structure of your model much better.

For the purpose of this question, I am willing to grant several of your interpretive premises rather than reopening them.

I will provisionally accept your reading of 2 Peter 3:8:

I understand that the bracketed phrases are part of your interpretation, and I am willing to use that interpretation as a working premise here.

I will also provisionally accept your choice of Christ as the anchor point of the chronology. And I do not want to dispute the possibility of a very short terrestrial day on the early Earth.

There are, however, two steps in the model that I still do not understand.

The first concerns your use of the hour in Gethsemane.

You wrote:

And then:

I reread the Gethsemane passage, especially Mark 14:35, 37, and 41. What strikes me is that “hour” functions there in more than one way. First, Mark tells us that Jesus prayed that, if possible, the hour might pass from Him. Then Jesus asks Peter whether he could not watch for one hour. Finally, Jesus says, “The hour has come.”

The middle case is the one that seems most directly quantitative: the disciples are asked to remain awake with Him for a period of time. I can also understand why that hour might have a deeper theological significance. They are being asked to remain with Him in a moment they cannot prevent or change.

What I still do not see is the connection between that meaning and your rule for the period before Earth existed.

In your latest reply to ShiningCloud, you further clarified that without a rotating Earth, the formula returns to its baseline value: one day equals one hour. I now better understand that you regard this hour as the starting value of your calculation. What I still do not understand is which specific rule within your model establishes that baseline value as exactly one hour. And what role do Jesus’ words in Gethsemane play in establishing it?

My second question is more mathematical, and I may simply be missing one step in your construction.

In your original table, “Hours in a Year” remains 8,766 at every historical point. What changes is the length of the terrestrial day. So with a 24-hour day, roughly 365 days fit into the year, while with a 4-hour day, roughly 2,192 days fit into the same year.

That part makes sense to me.

But then the increase from 365 to 2,192 becomes the formula multiplier, so that the baseline 365-million-year Creation Day expands to 2.192 billion years.

This is the step I do not yet understand.

If the year still contains roughly the same 8,766 hours, then the larger number of days is simply the consequence of each day being shorter. Roughly speaking,

365 × 24 hours

and

2,192 × 4 hours

describe almost the same total duration.

Am I right, then, that in your model every individual rotation of the Earth, regardless of its physical duration, is counted as one full unit corresponding to a “day with the Lord,” with each such unit still representing 1,000 literal years?

If so, that helps me understand the arithmetic. But I would like to understand what establishes that particular correspondence between a physical Earth rotation and a “day with the Lord.”

I am asking because this seems to be the point where the changing physics of Earth’s rotation enters your theological conversion. If there is a connection here that I have missed, I think understanding it would make the internal logic of your chronology much clearer to me.

Maybe one day you will be a former heretic

The days of a month were 30, and so a year is 360. Calling it ‘prophetic’ is true, in context, because it will again be 360 in the future, It is also true it was historical. 42 months being 1260 days is not prophetic. Any more that 2 plus 2 is prophetic.
I never suggested that the change in a year was responsible for anything. I suggested that is may be one of the big changes God was responsible for.
We know it changes again in the future. If that change happens soon in the last seven years of man’s history, or starts to happen, some of the prophesies could make sense in that light. For example, at one point great heat from the sun happens. A day also at some point is a lot shorter, (a third). Then in the very end for awhile the sun goes out. Who knows but that this perhaps could be connected with a change in the relationship of earth and sun that results in 5 less days a year?
Then there is the fact that all islands on earth will move around from where they were gto other places. (also a superquake bigger than anything the planet ever experienced) That could be when the earth starts to move back together again. (rapid reverse continental separation)! Hold on people, big things are coming your way soon

For me, coming to Christ involved knowing He was real and the bible was true. The people trying to paint the bible as unreal fairy tales were an obstacle. The ‘god is dead or sleeping’ kind of crowd. You know, like the old gaffer god who was half asleep for billions of years while the universe and earth created itself.

In Case one translation is not enough, here are several
Gen 5:1 This is the record of Adam’s descendants. On the day God created humanity, he made them to resemble God

This is the history of Adam’s family. When God created people, he made them like himself.
This is the written account of Adam and his descendants. When God created humans, he made them in the likeness of God

When people accuse me of disobeying Scripture and turning away people because of a simple faith in the record of Scripture that is judging the legitimacy or efficacy of anyone’s faith or lack of faith.

Actually it could be if the message was in the symbolism of the numbers. For example 3 being the number of divine completeness.

That is not what being prophetic means.

Also stars will fall to earth, which can’t happen without totally destroying the earth. So you have to look at what the symbolism means. And being prophetic it is actually always about what the symbolism means.

And there you go with the science fiction again.

Number significance is an added feature not the main show
Yes the sun and stars going out can and will happen without destroying earth. That is how big He is.
Jer 32:27 Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?
It is not science fiction that there will be a superquake so big that all mountains will be levelled and every high tower fall and every island move away from where it is. That is bible 101. More certaiin than the sunrise
