BC (Before Christ) versus BCE (Before the Current Era)

Note that BCE and CE originally stood for Before Christian Era and Christian Era though nowadays they are usually said to stand for Before Common Era and Common Era (with abbreviations who really will know the writer’s intent?). Note the original use might have been for people who preferred using an English phrase rather than a Latin phrase (Anno Domini; the Latin equivalent for BC was Ante Christum Natum or ACN).
