While back we had podcast episodes on technology…. Another question

Recently AI has become even more popular. I myself have used it for fun. I have never used it to summarize a webpage. But I’ve noticed that Meta has some AI generated box that summarizes what threads are and today for the first time I’ve noticed Meta having an AI image generator. I think many of us are aware of the battle between artists and how AI uses their work to train itself. But I’ve seen a few arguments that I never really paid much thought to but it’s been growing and so I looked at some stuff today.

The argument, and I presume it’s true, is that AI, including chatGPT is actually consuming a massive amount of natural resources to work. One site mentioned that AI is expected to have used over 6 billion gallons of freshwater by 2027 which is greater than freshwater used by the entire state of California in a day.

Seems it’s such a drain that tech firms are even considering going to nuclear power to handle it.

My question is that as Christians should we treat AI as a natural resource drain? If we know climate change will affect those in third world nations than will AI become one of the main drives towards climate change?
