So what I hear coming out of your last post is:

"Religions are not inherently opposed to science, except when someone imbued with an overly zealous “literalism” (usually a departure from the more reasonable traditions of the denomination in question) goes out of his/her way to make the view (though “out of step”) into a ruling view (at least temporarily).

If this is your qualification for what you think can happen within religious institutions, then you and I are going to agree a lot more frequently in the future than in the past.

“Literalism” is what modern day audiences need to be alert about in religious bodies that are inherently “bound by the times” of their formation.
