No. Jesus was God and gave the Great Commission. If we think Jesus was God, we must do it. With due respect, I think ecumenism is a non-Christian concept.
I would visit a temple if it was part of a holiday tour, I probably wouldn’t enjoy it, due to Psalm 101:3, but I don’t think it’s a sin to even look at false idols, the psalmist was writing in a day when apostasy was a pervasive influence, and thus (for him) even looking at idols was a danger.
Yet you read ANE mythology with enjoyment and without it bothering your conscience. Are the two not comparable?
Edit: I should say that I am encouraging you to relax your views on temples, not to stop reading myths.
I read it with fascination, not enjoyment because it tells us about ANE history and culture, and also because it can help us to understand God’s word better.
That’s a fine line, but I hear you. The same could be said of ancient temples and even modern religions. It’s all about attitude and context. As long as you are approaching these things for the glory of God, and not as substitutes for God, you are on solid ground. Nevertheless, listen to your own conscience on such matters.
