The biblical mandate to subdue the earth and rule over the animals is not necessarily at odds with the concerns of modern day ecology. The problem is not the text, but the Anti-human trend in modern environmentalism, which tends to see human flourishing and ecological flourishing are incompatible. This has lead to tribal peoples losing their lands in the name of conservation, but the truth is that tribal peoples have been conserving their lands for millennia, and the land suffers once they are gone. So human dominion is not inherently destructive, far from it:
