Enjoyed the article, as one who has wielded a silver nitrate stick. To continue the wound healing analogy, we also see after injury and healing the production of hypertrophic scar- commonly called keloid formation. In contrast to proud flesh, it is hard and disfiguring, and difficult to do away with, as it tends to recur with excision and may require a more measured approach than destruction. So too in our societal wounds, those who have become hard and disfigured my require a gentler approach with love and time, and ultimately may require a measure of acceptance and grace, as scarring is likely to remain.

Glad someone understood this analogy better than me. 
It won’t look the same. Growth never does. But hopefully we will be knit in new healthier ways than previous ones
